Agni – Psychedelic Surya, 2018, video, 6 mins
I am exhibiting a video in the show Let There Be Light, at the Justin Art House Museum, 24th Feb – 12th June.
I often use strong colour in paintings, or light sculptures and installations while much of this work slowly changes colour setting up a visual field and extended space. The use of non-representation, slow speed and silence is to focus on internal experiences in consciousness rather than giving information as a representational or text work does.
I then began to notice that the video documentation of these and other studio installations were becoming works in themselves. This is the first of these videos that I have exhibited. Agni is a Sanskrit word meaning fire. Surya is a Sanskrit word meaning sun.
This work was made on the traditional lands of the Boon Wurrung and Woiwurrung (Wurundjeri) peoples of the Kulin nations and I pay my respects to their Elders, past present and future. I acknowledge that sovereignty has never been ceded. This artwork has also been carbon offset through the use of recycled materials and donations to Greenfleet.
